'Civilization VI' news: Religion to get major reboot in fall

"Civilization VI" will get a major reboot with new Religion system and more aggressive AI."Civilization VI" website

A major reboot is coming for "Civilization VI" this fall, particularly an overhaul of its Religion system, key developments on its user interface (UI), and updates on its now more aggressive artificial intelligence (AI).

Two new Pantheons will be added to the game, as well as the new Founder, Follower, Enhancer, and Worship Beliefs. "These beliefs unlock the ability to build two new buildings as well as a new combat unit, the Warrior Monk," Firaxis Games associate producer Sarah Darney explained on their website.

Following requests for a "deeper overall experience," Firaxis tweaked the religious units so they could now exercise Zone of Control and obtain Flank and Support bonuses when in combat. The Guru religious support, on the other hand, now has the ability to heal nearby units.

The gaming company has also modified the Religious Lens for improved "usability and readability." Now players would see indicator flags to remove doubts on where a unit's allegiance lies.

Apart from religion, the game's UI is also getting some key developments. Such include an update to the Diplomacy screens that would allow information to be more accessible to players. This would also remove "gossip" news that could distract players from the game. The new Great People art would make the screen easier to navigate, while the Capital icons could now be seen on city banners in the Espionage Mission menu.

As for AI, Firaxis warns players of more aggressive coastal attacks. The oceans are no longer safe with enemy AI building naval units, fleets and armadas. This update would be "especially exciting" with the arrival of a new civilization, which Firaxis says is coming soon.

More little tweaks could be expected from the game, which would be announced once the updates go live, although Firaxis has yet to give an official date on when that would be.
