'Civilization 6' release date: Screenshots give a closer look at game map and exquisite details

"Civilization VI" drops this fall.2k Games, Fireaxis Games

The beauty of "Civilization VI" is demonstrated by a slew of screenshots of the upcoming game released by developer Firaxis. The humongous map on the game is pictured from various angles, giving fans a good look at what's in it.

Fans will see a glimpse of the military facilities on the map. Followers of the award-winning franchise will also notice the absence of the clouds over the map, which is one of the major design changes Firaxis made.

The Civilization VI" screenshots also treated fans will a view of some parts of the structures and cities featured in the game map, with one filled with Feudal Japan architecture. There are also various Japanese units shown on the images.

Firaxis takes pride in the elaborate detail in "Civilization VI," which should look good zoomed all the way out and should look far better and rich when zoomed in. When the whole map is displayed, players will be able to easily distinguish which warrior is which by the detail on their uniform.

"It's obviously a little more readable if you have different silhouettes to things. Warriors are definitely bigger. They've got a very thick silhouette and are just big massive guys," art director Brian Busatti told IGN (via Lazy Gamer).

"And you have smaller guys who are still heroic, but leaner. So you can tell the difference right away between an Archer and a Warrior," he went on to say about the new and improved art style of "Civilization VI."

In the upcoming game, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington will no longer be the leaders of the American people. The 26th president of the United States Theodore Roosevelt will take on that role in "Civilization VI."

According to Venture Beat, who had the chance to see the first 50 turns of "Civilization VI," the upcoming Firaxis game will be "a drastic change" from its predecessor, "Civilization V," something that Firaxis is going for.

"Civilization VI" arrives Oct. 21.
