Five-time Emmy nominated comic Chonda Pierce, who was widowed three years ago after losing her husband to alcoholism, said that she would not be alive today if it were not for her faith.

In a recent interview with CBN News, Pierce reflected on what Easter meant to her and shared how God had intervened to help her overcome the tragedies she recently suffered.

"We have a living God and so that means He walks and talks with us every day as we are alive," she told CBN.

"And so it is the grandest celebration for our entire faith. I think if it had not been for the cross, I can tell you right now, I would not be alive. I think His intervention in my life has been nothing less than divine. And so that takes a living God. So the resurrection of Christ is everything," the comedian added.

Apart from losing her husband, Pierce also went through the tragedy of losing her mother and being estranged from her own daughter.

Pierce, who is on her second leg of "Getting Back to Funny Tour," also spoke about the role of women in society. She expressed her belief that the Bible is not gender specific and that women should embrace the biblical perspective of womanhood.

She said that she derives courage and joy from what she learns from the Bible about the role of women.

"I feel like I can go get a Ph.D. if that's what I want to do. I can be a great mom at home if that's what the Lord has assigned me to do and so the Word of God is everything," she explained.

The comedian, who has been performing for more than two decades, said that despite her struggles, she wants her audience to hear about something good about her life during her shows.

Pierce previously appeared on Mike Huckabee's TBN show, "Huckabee," where she also opened up how she overcame the tragic loss of her husband.

During the interview, Pierce explained that her comedy shows were part of the healing process, and explained that she also finds great comfort in the biblical passage that says God will take care of widows and orphans.

Apart from her tour, Pierce also starred in the 2017 film "Enough," which chronicles her struggles after her husband's death in 2014.

In a statement, she expressed hope that the movie, which was released on DVD On Dec. 1, would serve as a "poignant reminder" that one's true identity can "only be found in Christ."

Apart from her five Emmy nominations, Pierce has been named by the Recording Industry Association of America as the best-selling comedian of all-time and she has been listed by Pollstar as one of its top-selling live performers.
