'Community' season 7 news: Future of series looks bleak; movie to be in the works?

The critically-acclaimed TV sitcom "Community" may be permanently missing on air after its sixth season, but it does not mean that its huge cult-following will not have another dose of the popular TV show's humor.

"Community" aired its first five seasons on NBC, but the network chose to cancel the show after the finale of season 5. The network allegedly cancelled the series because of the constant decline in the audience ratings.

Bob Greenblatt, the chairman of NBC Entertainment, explained why they decided to end "Community's" lifespan on TV during the Television Critics Association press tour last year.

"It didn't just make sense for us to have another season of it at that level of audience," the NBC boss stated

During its first season, "Community" managed to have an average of 3.8 at the 18-49 brackets, but it dwindled until it reached the 1.3 mark during its fifth season.

But because of the strong demand for another season, Sony Pictures decided to shop for another venue to present the new episodes of the show. Yahoo! decided to pick it up and aired "Community" season 6 on its online streaming service provider. The sixth and final season is considered by the cast of the show as the "best" season for the entire series.

But Ken Jeong, the actor who portrays the role of Glendale Community College's pseudo-Spanish professor in the series, remains hopeful of having another chance to return to the "Community" set with the rest of its cast members.

"I will do anything 'Community' related. That show was so important to me and I've learned so much from Dan Harmon and my fellow castmates about television, and I've really become a better actor from that show," the "Dr. Ken" actor and executive producer told Variety.

He added, "I'm really setting my hopes on a movie. I really think the stars are aligned to do it. I honestly haven't heard anything official for a seventh season or a movie, but I'd want to be a part of both. You bet your bottom dollar I'll be asking. There's always room for a little Chang in anything."

But while a movie could be the best possibility for the show at the moment, a "Community" season 7 may not happen since Yahoo! has yet to announce if they want to order another season of the series.
