Film score phenomenon Hans Zimmer has come out of self-imposed retirement from the superhero genre to work on Marvel's "X-Men: Dark Phoenix."

Actor Evan Peters, who plays the current Quicksilver in the movie franchise, accidentally lets the news slip that Zimmer will be arranging the musical score for the coming superhero film. Stitcher interviewed the star on their show "Happy Sad Confused" about one of his other upcoming films, "American Animals." When questioned regarding his role in "X-Men," he confirmed he will be returning as the speedster Quicksilver, and mentioned the involvement of Zimmer for the movie's music.

This comes as shocking news to Marvel and "X-Men" fans as Zimmer had pronounced his retirement from the superhero genre of films back in March of 2016. Shortly after his work on "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," the composer said he was done with the superhero genre, following his extensive work in the same for years past. He was quoted referencing all his previous work, "The 'Dark Knight' trilogy might be three movies to you, to me it was 11 years of my life."

Zimmer has worked on multiple movies in the genre throughout the years, collaborating with Christopher Nolan on all three "Dark Knight" films and "Man of Steel," followed by the clash of the DC titans in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The composer also contributed to the musical score of Marvel's superhero reboot "The Amazing Spider-man 2."

Zimmer is a professional composer and film scorer who is most notable for his work 2010's award-winning "Inception." Zimmer again returned to work with Nolan on the film "Dunkirk" in 2017, which recently received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score.

Peters is confident in the upcoming "X-Men" title and went on to praise the debuting director Simon Kinberg's professionalism on the set saying, "It was actually very tame. Simon directed this one, and came in very prepared, very professional. It was a different energy on set and everything got done like clockwork. It was very seamless. Everybody was a little bit more level-headed, so it was a very pleasurable, light experience. I think the film is gonna be incredible."

No official release date for the film has been announced as of the time of writing, although a new director, with the addition of Zimmer are steps in the right direction.
