Concert raises funds for Tsunami Survivors

An Asian Earthquake Appeal gig has been arranged over the past few days by music promoter Iain Martin. Martin decided on the charity concert after a number of the musicians he works with said they wanted to help the millions affected by the tsunami disaster.

Amongst the acts invited to play are the high octane rhythm and blues band ‘The Mustangs’, in which Barkley is the drummer. The Mustangs have recently taken the blues world by storm, dominating the CD "Rocking Horse" on Raging Horse Records.

"They said it was the biggest disaster ever and that there must be something we could do," Iain said. "The idea came together over the next 24 hours. It’s amazing how many people have said they would help. This disaster seems to have touched everybody in some way."

Iain pledged that every penny raised by the gig would be handed over to the Disasters Emergency Committee which is coordinating fund raising in the UK.

"Everyone is giving their time and effort for free so there will be no administration or other costs," he said.

The venue and Staff have been given for free. Seven other acts will join The Mustangs at the Wedgewood Rooms in Portsmouth on Wednesday, January 19.

Musicians already vowed to play include singer-songwriter Andy Comley and Obviously Five Believers. Corporate support is also being recruited for the event.

Fundraiser Karen Betancourt-Jess said: "Companies will be able to buy Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze bonds of support depending on the amount they are willing to donate."

Scheduled later this month, this prestigious musical event plans to raise funds for the survivors of the Asian tsunami. Jonathan Bartley (Director of the theological group known as Ekklesia) will reacquaint himself with his trusty drum-kit, alongside other famous musicians expecting to raise thousands of pounds, for this charity concert spectacular.

Tickets for the Asian Quake Appeal concert are £10. They can be obtained from Stiff Promotions Ticket Hotline 07931 370110 or from the Wedgwood Rooms on 02392 863911. The concert is at the Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth on Wednesday 19th January. Doors open at 7.00pm
