The United States will take on Costa Rica on Friday night in what should be an explosive and exciting World Cup 2014 qualifier.

The challenge for the USA tonight is a big one – they have never won a World Cup qualifying match in Costa Rica in their history. They will be hoping to put that record to rest tonight. They are coming into the game having recently set a new record of 12 straight wins in a row, so there is no better time for them to take down Costa Rica on the road for the first time in their history.

The United States will be looking to extend their lead over second placed Costa Rica in the CONCACAF World Cup 2014 qualifiers table.

US have picked up big wins over Jamaica, Panama and Honduras in June to move to the top the CONCACAF fourth-round table. That has put them in the driving seat to qualify for the World Cup at the top of the group.

However, they will know how important it is to keep up the pace right to the end of their campaign – there are still four matches still to play, and they will not want any slip ups at this late stage after so much work to get themselves into this strong position.

The top three finishers in the group will qualify for next summer's World Cup in Brazil, but the team that falls into fourth-place will enter a playoff against New Zealand to make it to Brazil 2014.
