'Crash Bandicoot' PS4 release date: Activision bringing out remastered game in 2017

After years of speculations, Sony officially confirmed that "Crash Bandicoot" will be remastered for the latest PlayStation console.

During the game company's E3 2016 press conference, Sony revealed that the fan-favorite platform franchise will make its way to the PlayStation 4 under the development of Activision's Vicarious Visions. But instead of reworking on a single "Crash Bandicoot" game, the game developer will come up with a remastered collection that will include the original "Crash Bandicoot," first released in 1996, the 1997-released "Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back," as well as the "Crash Bandicoot: Warped" that came out in 1998.

As an additional gift to celebrate the game's 20th anniversary, the iconic video game marsupial will also join the characters in Activision's upcoming toy-to-life game "Skylanders: Imaginators." Based on the trailer shown in Sony's E3 2016 presentation, Crash will bring some of his popular moves to Skylands to "crash" the party.

In a press release on Activision's official blog, the developer said, "Fans will be able to jump on TNT Crates to blow them up, collect a Bazooka Crate to get a rocket launcher, use a jetpack to attack from high in the air, or employ his classic spinning attack. As a Sensei character, Crash will have his own Sky-Chi attack where he uses his yo-yo to yank enemies into a spin attack."

Reports also mentioned that seasoned voice actor Jess Harnell will reprise his role as Crash for the upcoming "Skylanders" installment.

The game is scheduled to come out exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 on Oct. 16. On the other hand, the remastered "Crash Bandicoot" collection is expected to be released on the market sometime in 2017.

"Crash Bandicoot" was originally developed by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation, and the franchise managed to sell more than 50 million units all over the world collectively.
