A dangerous new kidnapper will be at the center of BAU's latest investigation when "Criminal Minds" season 11 returns after a brief hiatus.

According to the official synopsis for the upcoming episode, titled "The Sandman," "The BAU heads to Wichita in search of an UnSub abducting children while their parents sleep. Also, Morgan tries to find who was responsible for his attack."

The episode seems to be inspired by European folklore where a mythical creature called the Sandman appears in children's dreams. But instead of having good dreams, the children in the episode will have terrible nightmares instead as the UnSub takes them away from their homes.

Based on the promo trailer, the new UnSub seems to mix sand and glue together and sprinkle the mixture over the eyes of the kids' parents to make sure that they remain asleep while he commits the crime.

The trailer also shows that someone on the team will be in danger in the upcoming episode. In the video, Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) is seen kissing his pregnant girlfriend Savannah Hayes (Rochelle Aytes). But the episode is said to be ending in a cliffhanger.

Viewers of the show know that Morgan will continue his quest to find out who abducted him in episode 16. He almost got killed in the episode that was aptly titled "Derek," but he managed to escape in the nick of time. This could mean that his life or that of someone close to him such as Savannah or anyone on the BAU team could still be at risk in the upcoming episode since his abductor remains at large.

The episode is directed by actor Joe Mantega, who portrays the role of BAU's Supervisory Special Agent David Rossi in the series.

The 17th episode of "Criminal Minds" season 11 will air on Wednesday, March 16, on CBS.
