'Criminal Minds' season 11 spoilers: Danny Glover to play role of Derek Morgan's dead father

It seems like things are shaping up for Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) in an upcoming episode of the 11th season of "Criminal Minds."

New reports say that BAU's supervisory special agent will be in the middle of a family drama in episode 16 of "Criminal Minds" season 11.

After recently talking with TV Line, series showrunner Erica Messer revealed that fans of the long-running police procedural drama should expect to see Derek in the middle of an emotional situation in one of the upcoming episodes this season.

"There is a lot going on with Derek," Messer explained. "He's really taking up our emotional head space for a good chunk of this midseason stretch."

Previous reports revealed that critically acclaimed actor Danny Glover was tapped to portray the role of Derek's father in the pivotal episode named after Moore's character, airing on March 2. This could come as a shock to all viewers of the show since the fans were informed that Derek witnessed the shooting of his police officer dad when he was 10 years old.

In a separate interview, Messer revealed that Glover will portray a very interesting role in the series.

"The reason Derek needs to call on this protector in this moment and work through some things is really beautifully written by Breen Frazier, and directed by [cast member] Thomas Gibson," she stated.

Viewers of the show know that Derek always liked to keep his life private. But the upcoming episode dedicated to the character could slowly lift the cloak that has hidden his painful days as a child.

Meanwhile, the synopsis for next week's episode titled "The Bond" reads:

"The BAU searches for a motive and an UnSub when victims are found in truck stop restrooms along highways throughout the South."

The upcoming episode titled "The Bond" is slated to air on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
