'Crocodile Dundee' sequel news: Trailer was just ad for Australian tourism, no movie confirmed

The cat's out of the bag, or in this case, the kangaroo's out of the pouch for the supposed sequel for "Crocodile Dundee" since it has been confirmed that the trailers were just advertisements for Australian tourism.

The trailer for "DUNDEE: The Son Of A Legend Returns Home," which was assumed to be a surprise sequel to the 1986 comedy "Crocodile Dundee," is actually a just a gag commercial and is not a real film. Fans who are expecting to see a Danny McBride comedy along with supposed co-star Chris Hemsworth first big shot at satire will be disappointed.

Brisbane Times from Australia has confirmed via its film industry sources that no sequel for Dundee exists and went as far as to claim that McBride's illegitimate Brian Dundee was simply a caricature for a commercial for the National Football League (NFL) Super Bowl event in the US. It was basically an ad to make American tourists come to Australia for a vacation during or after the Super Bowl.

Apparently, McBride just used the pretense of a Dundee sequel as a lure in order to showcase the inherent beauty of the Down Under.

Other pieces of evidence point out the apparent dead giveaways that the trailer was for a fake movie, most notably director Steve Rogers (not to be confused with Captain America's alter ego) since he was famous for his commercial work for brands like Nike, Old Spice, and Audi. Another one was Hemsworth himself, who is popularly known in Australia as a tourism ambassador for the country.

Other giveaways include McBride keeping the movie a secret for so long being unlikely, and Paul Hogan, the actor for Mike Dundee form the original film, having also participated in Australian tourism ads before, using his own movie and character.

The film also does not appear in Screen Australia's list of upcoming projects despite having the film organization's logo. Still, Screen Australia has yet to comment on the matter and has not confirmed this to be true or vouched for the supposed sequel yet.
