"Cyberpunk 2077" will not be arriving in the far future despite its name, but instead in the year 2019, which is why its developers are excited for the future of their new venture into the roleplaying game (RPG) genre.

Developer CD Projekt RED has promised that the futuristic and dystopian RPG "Cyberpunk 2077" will be much bigger than its previous multigame of the year-awardee title, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt." CD Projekt RED claims that its new RPG will be much more ambitious than "The Witcher 3," which in itself is quite a tall order since that game was regarded as one of, if not the best, RPGs of all time as well as one of the best video games ever.

CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski said that "Cyberpunk is our new Witcher 3, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning. We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it's very appealing to players, not only RPG players — but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher 3, for mature audiences. It's handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay." This was from a brief developer interview with PC Gamer magazine.

It means that the developers have a lot of work cut out for them since their "Witcher" games actually comprised a trilogy beginning from 2007 and already have a solid source material and lore since they were adapted from Polish writer Andrej Sapkowski's "Witcher" saga novels. "Cyberpunk 2077's" lore and world will then have to be built from scratch unlike "The Witcher's." 

Though the game becoming a huge hit once it arrives might not be too hard for CD Projekt RED since the studio has already built a huge reputation in the RPG genre for their work on "The Witcher" trilogy. It still is an exciting prospect though, since the developers have not made any other game other than the three "Witcher" titles in the past.

Meanwhile, fans expecting "The Witcher 4" will be sad since Kicinski himself stated that the title was intended to be a trilogy from the beginning and claimed that they cannot make another one anymore.
