A father has been charged with child abuse after a shocking video of him throwing his two-year-old daughter into a swimming pool surfaced.

The disturbing footage shows Corey McCarthy throwing his young daughter 23-month-old daughter Mia into the pool to "teach her a lesson." A woman can be seen rushing to the toddler's aid before she sinks to the bottom of the pool.

McCarthy was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse after the security video was viewed by Phoenix police. He told authorities that he threw his daughter into the pool to teach her a lesson about water after she dropped a 5-week-old puppy into the pool which later died.

Mia's mom, who is only identified as Samantha, was furious about the incident and told a local TV station that she was shocked over McCarthy's actions. "You see him taunting her, like throwing her like he's gonna, then he's not, throwing her like he's gonna, then he's not. What people don't know is also in the beginning of the video, he hoses her down with a water hose to kind of torture her that way. I am very angry and I'm very hurt and I just hope that my kids are going to be OK from this. People make mistakes, but this is past a poor decision and a mistake. This is a child."

Samantha and McCarthy have two children together.

Child abuse charges were filed because in the state of Arizona, discipline must be considered reasonable and not carried out in anger.

McCarthy is reportedly in a prison infirmary after he was beaten up in jail.
