'Daddy's Home 2' reviews: Sequel to 2015 comedy film receives mixed reviews
The latest family comedy film "Daddy's Home 2" received mixed reviews from movie critics. The movie starring comedy duo Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg premiered on Nov. 10. Some experts indicate that the movie is an improvement to the first one while others say all the elements are exactly the same.
"Daddy's Home 2" features are larger cast with actors Mel Gibson and John Lithglow joining in. The movie is about Brad (Ferrell) and Dusty (Wahlberg) who became friends and co-fathers to their children. The two were once again engaged in competition with Dusty's father, Kurt (Gibson) got into his head. Lithglow plays Pop-pop, the warm, loving, and naïve father of Brad.
According to Deadline, Lithglow and Gibson brought more life to the comedy film with their outstanding portrayals as grandfathers. The Roger Ebert review agreed that the movie introduced a more unique humor arsenal compared to "Daddy's Home" in 2015.
According to other reviews, the sequel was not able to deliver a better and an out-of-the-box comedy movie. IGN criticized the movie for its lack of humor and execution. IGN also said that the movie was simple and not funny at all by arguing that the flaws of the movie outweighs the effective gags.
The movie received a 2 out of 10 score from IGN, 2.5 out of 4 from Roger Ebert, and 6.5 out of 10 from IMDb.
Wahlberg and Ferrell are known for their friendship on and off camera. During his guesting on "Live With Kelly and Ryan," Wahlberg shared a story involving his daughter and Ferrel's son. "He's (Ferrell) got a boy that I guess at some point was in contact with my daughter on social media. At first I was really upset, but then I was thinking, I know will, I know his wife, they're so sweet," he said. Wahlberg also mentioned that it would be ok with him if the two connected. However, he concluded his statement with "But still, I would probably still end up killing Will."
