Dallas Cowboys roster news: Tony Romo to play remainder of season even if playoff chances are minimal

The Dallas Cowboys are on a six-game losing streak but despite their playoff hopes dwindling, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said they will be playing franchise quarterback Tony Romo once he returns.

Romo suffered a broken left collarbone in their victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 2 and since then, the Cowboys never saw a win again.

Following the injury, Romo was placed on the injured/designated to return list and may play again in their Week 11 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

Despite the playoff picture being hazy for Dallas, Jones said in a radio interview that Romo will play this season.

"When he gets on the field against Miami, and it most assuredly will be at this juncture, there's no set of circumstances that we wouldn't play him and play him with hopes of winning that game and winning the rest of the ballgames," Jones said in his radio guesting on 105.3 The Fan.

Jones also expressed belief that the Cowboys can be a top team in the National Football League (NFL) for the remainder of the regular season and would like their fans to see that happen.

It seems like the Cowboys will be banking on the return of Romo to boost their campaign for a postseason trip. In two games played this season, Romo has 54 completions for 551 yards and three touchdowns, with two interceptions.

The four-time Pro Bowler is already participating in practice and is working with the scout team.

Dallas is needing help since the starters who came after Romo are struggling to get that third victory this season.

Currently, Matt Cassel is the starting quarterback of the Cowboys after replacing Brandon Weeden, and will likely still be when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday for Week 10 action.

The Cowboys are currently at 2–6 and are sitting on the last spot in the National Football Conference (NFC) East.
