Both of these teams have had their chances to take control of the NFC East, however, both have failed to grab hold of those opportunities. That has allowed the Philadelphia Eagles to sneak back to the top of the pile, and the Giants and Cowboys currently occupy second and third places in the division respectively.

The Eagles and Giants are both on a level par 3-3, where as the Cowboys have failed to capitalize on a good start to the season and linger now on 2-3. The Washington Redskins occupy the basement with 2-4.

The Cowboys need another quarterback change today, and Matt Cassel will be under center to face the Giants at MetLife Stadium as Dallas look to snap their three game losing streak.

A win today for the Cowboys would also extend their recent dominance over the New York Giants; Dallas have won the last five straight games between these fierce rivals, and they seem to find the win against New York even when things are there for the Giants' taking.

Cowboys' coach Jason Garrett has decided to opt for Cassel after Brandon Weeden failed miserably against the New England Patriots the week before their bye - a game that Dallas lost heavily 6-30.

Cowboys quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson has said of Cassel: "He knows the offense and you can tell he's a veteran pro. He has great command out there. The guys respond to him. He's a sharp guy and has picked things up very quickly."

Earlier this week on Thursday Night Football, the Seattle Seahawks destroyed the San Francisco 49ers 20-3 as they shut down the 49ers' offense to great affect.

San Francisco were not even able to get onto the scoreboard until the second half, and when they did it would be a solitary field goal effort in the third quarter.

That result gave the Seahawks their fourth straight win over the 49ers, and it will have pleased them to dump San Francisco down to the depths of 2-5, effectively ending any lingering thoughts that the 49ers had of being able to make the Playoffs.

The Seahawks have been gaining a reputation for having fourth quarter collapses this season, and that has undermined their efforts for their division race. But there was to be no repeat of those collapses on Thursday, as they gained their first road win in four attempts to go 3-4 and within touching distance of a more mediocre .500 record.

On Thursday Night Football, quarterback Russell Wilson completed 10 of his first 12 passes to impose himself on the game, and finished the game with 235 yards passing. However, he was also alarmingly sacked five times as his team failed to give him adequate protection.

Marshawn Lynch scored a spectacular touchdown, jumping the pile for a one yard score, and overall ran for 122 yards, although the most memorable moment for many about Lynch's performance on Thursday may have been when he vomited on the sidelines in the first half.
