This game is the perfect way to end a day packed with 13 NFL games, and features two of the biggest rivals in the league.

The Cowboys come into this new season with renewed hope that they can be serious competitors this season, after surprising everyone last year with a 12-4 season. That clinched them their first division title since 2009, and also means they come into this new season with higher expectations that they can now push on and achieve bigger and greater things.

Some more measured Cowboys' fans and analysts will point out that simply making the Playoffs again for a second straight season would be an achievement in itself and be a massive step forwards for them. Dallas has not made consecutive Playoffs since the 2006-2007 seasons.

Even worse, the Cowboys have not managed to put together two straight years of 10-win seasons since way back in the 90's.

There will be real hope that those statistics can be put to bed this season, but these are the kinds of games that the Cowboys must win if they are to achieve another 10-game win season, and make the Playoffs for a second consecutive year. A loss today may knock their confidence and send them spiraling into an all too familiar disappointing season.

The Giants meanwhile have had some terrible starts to recent seasons and know how important a win on Day 1 is. A loss here today will immediately start talk about a repeat of recent years when their season was over before it really got started due to a string of pathetic performances early on in the season.

Earlier this week the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers faced off in the NFL season opener, and Tom Brady and co. were too much for the Steelers, winning the game 28-21.

Brady, who was set to miss the first four games of the season until a late appeal saw his suspension for "Deflategate" overturned, threw for four touchdowns in the victory. All four touchdowns were thrown to Brady's tight ends, and three went to Rob Gronkowski.

Overall Brady went 25 of 32 for 288 yards in a magnificent performance that ultimately proved the difference between the teams. The quarterback even set a franchise record for an amazing 19 consecutive pass completions.

Brady said after the game: "It was a pretty special night. I was excited, our whole team was excited. We haven't had one of these nights in a long time."

Towards the end of the game, the Patriots' fans mocked NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell over the "Deflategate" scandal. The fans chanted, "Where is Roger?" after Goodell did not attend the season opener against tradition.

However, controversy continues to follow the New England Patriots around, and after the game it emerged that a new scandal was being reported; that the Steelers' coaches couldn't communicate as they kept getting interference with their headsets, hearing Patriots' radio broadcasts. Steelers' coach Mike Tomlin was angry about the issue after the game, however, the headsets are controlled by the league and not the Patriots. The league has has said that the headset issue was simply a temporary problem and the weather had played a major part in the problems.
