The Dallas Mavericks answered their issues at the point guard position by bringing home Deron Williams and signing him to a two-year, $10 million pact with a player option following the second year of the deal.

Williams, who grew up in the suburbs of Dallas, joined the Mavs after the Brooklyn Nets completed a buyout of his existing contract, in which he still had two years remaining.

The 31-year-old will likely be the Mavericks' main point guard following the departure of Rajon Rondo who signed with the Sacramento Kings.

Dallas will now have a deep pool of seasoned point guards with the arrival of Williams as he joins J.J. Barea, Raymond Felton, and Devin Harris.

Williams played in 68 games last season in his fifth year with the Nets franchise and averaged 13.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game.

They were able to make it to the postseason but were eliminated by the Eastern Conference's no. 1 seed the Atlanta Hawks in six games.

In last year's postseason campaign against Atlanta, Williams averaged 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Williams, the no. 3 overall pick in the 2005 draft, is an excellent addition to the Mavericks if he can stay healthy for the entire season.

He is a proven scorer and is also a great facilitator but was slowed down by injuries in the past especially in his time with the Nets.

Williams will be joining shooting guard Wesley Matthews and center Zaza Pachulia as the Mavericks' new acquisitions this offseason. 

Matthews was inked to a maximum-deal while Dallas traded for Pachulia from the Milwaukee Bucks to compensate for DeAndre Jordan who backed out of the verbal agreement he had with the team this free agency. 

The Mavs are also targeting center JaVale McGee to fill in that void in the middle and reports say the team already met him last weekend.
