Dallas Mavericks roster rumors 2015: Can scoring slack of Monta Ellis be picked up by 3 players?

By now many may have noticed that the Dallas Mavericks have their backs against the wall though they have acquired some player who could somehow help the team make a credible showing this coming season.

Gone are Monta Ellis and of course that spurned opportunity to reel in DeAndre Jordan. While the Jordan issue is something that could have helped, the fact remains that the Mavs lost a big scoring punch when Ellis opted out of his contract.

Coach Rick Carlisle knows the load that Ellis brings to the team, the leading scorer for the club last season. While it remains curious why the Mavs never bothered to try and re-sign Ellis when he opted out, it could be a money-matter.

With that over and done with, the best the Mavs can do right now is set the bar on their new recruits.

Deron Williams could be a big help, if only he can recall the form that made him a force when he was still in Utah. Though he is expected to hold playmaking duties more, some scoring could be forthcoming as well.

But the need is really more on the shooting guard position. Entering their first season as a Maverick are Wes Matthews, John Jenkins and Justin Anderson. Of the three, Matthews is of course the more known and someone Williams had played with during the Jazz days.

Matthews can play on both ends of the court, probably even at small forward depending on what coach Carlisle has in mind.

Jenkins and Anderson on the other hand are proven scorers who can be of help, hopefully something that will work for the Mavs.

All three will have to step up big time to cover the slot that used to be held by Ellis. With three options to choose from, could one of them step up and address that need. Well the odds are good but the production is another so hopefully the Mavs can garner some luck from the two-guard position this coming season.
