With Team USA on a roll at the Rio Olympics 2016, fans expect an Olympic competitor or two to join a whole new type of contest next – "Dancing with the Stars" season 23.

The reality dance competition is big on sport stars. Not only does the show have a rich history of bringing in athletes in the cast, the sports stars usually end up with the Mirror Ball Trophy as well.

As per Carter Matt, it will come as no shock if Simone Biles graces this year's "Dancing with the Stars" line-up. Currently reputed as the finest gymnast on the planet, the Fierce Five star will easily be a fan favorite.

Decorated Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky is also one of the stars hoped to join "Dancing with the Stars" season 23.

The record-breaker has already shown she is unbeatable on water, and it will be fun to see whether or not she will fare the same on the dance floor too.

However, it looks like a former gymnast will take the spot in the "Dancing with the Stars" season 23 cast instead. New rumors are claiming that McKayla Maroney will join the competition.

The 20-year-old made headlines after winning gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London in gymnastics. She quit the sport this year due to health issues.

However, Maroney may have found a way to practice her passion again. It was discovered that she started following "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancer Mark Ballas on Twitter.

This led to speculations that Maroney will join season 23 with Ballas as her partner. It is not a long shot since before Antonio Brown hit the dance floor, the Pittsburgh Steelers star followed Sharna Burgess in social media.

Burgess turned out to be his partner in the last season of the competition. This also might be the case for Maroney.

Also, The Inquisitr points out that she is not joining the 2016 Kellogg's Tour of Gymnastics Champions next month despite three of her former Fierce Five teammates joining the affair.

For this, her schedule is clear for a "Dancing with the Stars" season 23 gig. Whether or not she is joining the cast, it will be revealed by the end of the month with the full lineup being unveiled by then.

"Dancing with the Stars" season 23 premieres Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
