Daniel Day-Lewis' upcoming film "Phantom Thread" has released its first trailer, showing glimpses of the actor's latest collaboration with director Paul Thomas Anderson. The movie will feature the final performance of the Day-Lewis who announced his retirement earlier in the year.

The trailer showed the 1950 post-war London, which served as the setting of the film. In the glamorous time period, Day-Lewis plays the role of renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock, while Lesley Manville portrays his sister, Cyril.

The siblings are at the center of British fashion, designing clothing for popular people, from royalty to celebrities and socialites. Reynolds' previously carefully tailored life is disrupted when he falls in love with Alma, who is played by Vicky Krieps.

The movie, which tells the creative journey of the elite tailor and the women who become part of his life, will be the last film of Day-Lewis as an actor, as he has previously announced his retirement.

"Daniel Day-Lewis will no longer be working as an actor," said the actor's spokesperson in a statement in June. "He is immensely grateful to all of his collaborators and audiences over the many years. This is a private decision and neither he nor his representatives will make any further comment on this subject. "

Day-Lewis is known as one of the most prolific actors of his generation, with a career spanning over four decades and over 20 films. He is the only actor to ever win three Academy awards for Best Actor.

He won his first Best Actor Oscar with 1989's "My Left Foot," while the second one was given for his performance in 2007's "There Will Be Blood," which was also directed by Anderson. He won his third Oscar with Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" in 2012.

With his new film, Day-Lewis may get a chance for a fourth Oscar win. "Phantom Thread" is set to be released on Dec. 25.
