'Daredevil' season 3 release date news: next season could be shelved to give way to 'Defenders' miniseries

After the action-packed finale of the second season of "Daredevil," season 3 of the hit Netflix comic book adaptation is already the talk of the town.

The streaming giant hasn't renewed the show yet, but the way the sophomore run of the show ended, there's a huge chance "Daredevil" was being set up for another season.

"Daredevil" lead Charlie Cox admitted last month that he still does not know "if there's going to be a season 3." The second season dropped on Netflix last March.

Netflix usually takes some time to announce a renewal, eliciting suspense and worry from fans. Even so, the success of the second season, which introduced comic book icons like Punisher (Jon Berthal) and Elektra (Elodie Yung), should speak for the likely possibility of "Daredevil" season 3 happening.

Cox hopes that "Daredevil" season 3 will happen because he believes that the man without fear has more adventures to take in the small screen, including a would-be epic match against one of his most famous enemies.

"I can't imagine doing a run of Daredevil where Bullseye doesn't show up at some point," the actor said, referring to the psychopath assassin whose impeccable marksmanship (that earned him the apt name) and thirst to kill cause headaches to Hell's Kitchen's protector in the comics.

A "Daredevil" season 3 renewal should be around the corner, but with Netflix taking its time when it comes to such, fans will have to wait a bit more.

It would be odd not to see the hero in a new run especially with the "Defenders" miniseries he is a part of (alongside Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage) already in the works. Marvel and Netflix's attention is largely on that at the moment.

Production for the "Defenders" is expected to start by the end of the year and Cox will be there. This might delay "Daredevil," which, is supposed to be released March or April next year if Netflix follows its usual release schedules.

But since "Defenders" will premiere in 2017, "Daredevil" season 3 might have to be held up. What's sure is that fans who want to see Matt Murdock in action won't have to wait because he himself is a member of the titular crew.
