The first DLC for "Dark Souls 3" is now live on all platforms.

For those who have the game's Season Pass, the first of two planned expansion content, dubbed as "Ashes of Ariandel," can already be accessed. The release happened earlier than what was previously expected, as the DLC was prematurely released on the Xbox One prior.

Publisher Bandai Namco has opted to adjust the release schedules rather than stop the launch completely. According to Gamespot, the publisher stated: "Due to a logistical error, the Dark Souls III Ashes of Ariandel DLC was made available for download for a short period of time for Xbox One players. We have since corrected this scheduling error and the Dark Souls III Ashes of Ariandel DLC will now be available on October 24, 2016 at 3 PM PDT for Steam players and October 24, 2016 at 9 PM PDT for console players."

Previously, the "Ashes of Ariandel" DLC is supposed to launch on Oct. 25.

The new post-launch content is the first of two expansions for "Dark Souls 3," with the second DLC expected to come out early next year. Meanwhile, it is confirmed at this point that "Dark Souls 3" will stop at two DLCs, as its developer, From Software, is supposed to focus on other franchise IPs. However, the studio said that "Dark Souls 3" is the final installment of the franchise at this time only, and the team may return to the franchise for another sequel.

In its synopsis, "Ashes of Ariandel" will expand on the original story for the game, as well as add some new features for "Dark Souls 3." "Players are tasked to enter the land of Ariandel and defeat the evil within to uncover the mystery of what has caused the land to become defiled," its expansion plot reads. The new DLC unlocks new items such as gear, weapons, armor sets, and magic. It also introduces a new, dedicated PvP arena for multiplayer battles.
