Fans of the "Dark Souls" series cannot wait for the third installment of the franchise, and if the success of its brother title "Bloodborne" is any indication, the upcoming "Dark Souls 3" will be a smash hit.

The first bit of good news for "Dark Souls" fans is that series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki will return to helm the upcoming third installment. Fans will witness the famous "Miyazaki Touch," as what industry observers have taken to calling it – a signature style, design, and gameplay that gamers will easily attribute to Miyazaki and his team even with just a glance.

Another good news is that hardcore gamers of the franchise will not need to overhaul their "Soul" gaming, as Miyazaki had said that his team at From Software designed the upcoming installment to feel "Soul"-like, even borrowing some key elements from the first two titles. Speaking to industry expert Game Informer, Miyazaki stressed that the upcoming "Souls" will have the same set of spells and battle aesthetics taken from the two games. However, the gameplay will be more refined.

"We will make sure that they are not just the same type of spells with different attributes (i.e. Spear type, lightning type) but actually have specific characteristics that can enhance the players' play styles and strategies," Miyazaki said. "Players will be able to have more criteria to accurately choose the different types of spells to best fit their tactics and strategies. This is similar to the thinking behind the characterization of each weapon and their specific battle arts."

Meanwhile, rumor has it that the title for the upcoming game will be "Slashy Souls." According to Gematsu, publisher Bandai Namco has applied for the trademark to be used in the U.S., together with "Thousand Storm." Gematsu, however, cautions that the "Slashy Souls" trademark is not yet confirmed for the upcoming "Dark Souls" sequel, and may instead point to a mobile game from the franchise.
