Many games have come and gone, and there are titles that have yet to be released. But perhaps one of the most highly anticipated games of 2016 is "Dark Souls 3."

New footage of the gameplay of "Dark Souls 3" has been making waves, as fans of the franchise are bracing themselves for what already looks like an epic action game. The setting looks familiar, but only because it has the same dark vibe as its predecessors'.

"Dark Souls 3" will reportedly be available on multiple platforms, including the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. All three versions will be released at the same time, which also means less waiting for avid Steam users.

However, it is not all good news for "Dark Souls" followers, as the third installation might be the last.

In an interview with Gamespot, Hidetaka Miyazaki, head of From Software, which is the company behind the video game series, reveals some very interesting information and views on why "Dark Souls 3" could be the final "Dark Souls" title.

"I don't think it'd be the right choice to continue indefinitely creating 'Souls' and 'Bloodborne' games. I'm considering 'Dark Souls 3' to be the big closure on the series. That's not just limited to me, but From Software and myself together want to aggressively make new things in the future," he explained.

"'Dark Souls 3' will mark the last game where the development project began before I became president. The next title will be a game that was conceived while I was president. I believe that From Software has to create new things. There will be new types of games coming from us, and 'Dark Souls 3' is an important marker in the evolution of From Software."

When asked about the game's story, Miyazaki mused that "Dark Souls 3" will contain a big conclusion to an ongoing theme that has graced the "Dark Souls" franchise.

Miyazaki also stated that he doesn't mind when other game developers make games similar to theirs. He muses that it simply means people are attracted and enjoy playing a certain genre, thus the need to release more titles with the same concept.

"Dark Souls 3" is set to be released on April 12, 2016.
