'Dark Souls 3' DLC release date news: First DLC lands fall followed by DLC number 2 in 2017

Dark Souls 3 From Software, Bandai Namco

"Dark Souls III" is the latest from the popular action-RPG franchise by From Software. While the vanilla game has received multiple awards and critical acclaim, no official news has yet been released regarding its two DLC packs, which have already been listed on the "Dark Souls III" Season Pass on Steam.

According to a report from Video Gamer, the first DLC is expected to launch this fall. No specific release date has yet been released and the developers have yet to make an official announcement regarding the DLC's content and setting but many fans speculate it will be presented during this year's E3, which will be held from June 14 to June 16.

While the first DLC pack is expected to be released within the year, the second DLC pack is not. According to a report from PlayStation Lifestyle, the second DLC pack is expected to be released sometime in 2017. Fans speculate that this indicates a February release if the DLC is included in From Software's fiscal report plans.

It is also pointed out that once the second DLC is released, director Hidetaka Miyazaki will officially be done with the "Dark Souls" series. Miyazaki confirmed that the franchise might still continue, with other people directing and taking creative control, but for himself he will be done with the series and will move on to something else.

"What is certain for now is, to me personally 'Dark Souls' is over. So rather than make another sequel, I think it's time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.," Miyazaki explained in the interview. The director did not reveal any clues regarding the new IP that From Software is developing.

For the time being, fans waiting for the two DLC packs can avail of the Season Pass via Steam where it costs $25. Pre-ordering the Season Pass will grant players free access to the DLC packs when they are released. Other consumers may still purchase the DLC packs individually.
