The open world adventure 'hack and slash' video game where the player controls one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Death, will be coming to the PS4 and will be named Darksiders 2: Definitive Edition. The title's current publisher, Nordic Games, had confirmed to GameSpot stating that the remastered version will be released for the next generation consoles. While the Definitive Edition will be released for the PS4, it also means that the title will be coming to the Xbox One console but there has been no mention of an official release date.

Darksiders 2 was developed by Vigil Games and published by THQ. Vigil Games was owned by THQ at the time and after the publishing company had declared bankruptcy, Nordic Games cashed in the opportunity and acquired all of THQ's assets for $4.9 million USD, which included Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs. ATV, Destroy all Humans!, Summoner, and Supreme Commander. According to GameSpot, in May 2014, creative director of Darksiders and Darksiders 2 had stated that the series might be carried on from where it left off, since players had only gotten a chance to experience the abilities of two Horsemen, whereas two were still remaining.

Darksiders 2 focuses on the acrobatic abilities of Death, who is searching for his brother War after the latter had been accused of being responsible for initiating the Apocalypse and dooming all of mankind in the process. The timeline of Death occurs during the period that War is defeated by Straga (one of the Destroyer's chosen) when he meets him on earth for the first time and is being kept captive by The Charred Council for his alleged crimes afterwards.

Darksiders 2 was able to gain one accolade, which was being the best game sold for the month of Aug. 2012. The sales tally of title reached to 247,000 units and in total, Darksiders 2 was able to sell 1.5 million copies. According to THQ, the sales performance was below the company's projected mark.
