'Darksiders 3' release date: Original 'Darksiders' to get 'Warmastered Edition' on Oct. 25

Nordic Games

While waiting for the new sequel to drop, hardcore fans of the "Darksiders" series can get another chance to check out the original title, as a remastered "Darksiders: Warmastered Edition" is slated to come out later this year.

Announcing the new game in the franchise, publisher Nordic Games stated that story-wise, the new iteration will not deviate from its storyline. The new remastered edition will still play like the original.

"Deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, War – the first Horseman of the Apocalypse – stands accused of breaking the sacred law by inciting a war between Heaven and Hell. In the slaughter that ensued, the demonic forces defeated the heavenly hosts and laid claim to the Earth," the announcement reads.

However, the new edition will have tweaked improvements on its gameplay and graphics. "Darksiders: Warmastered Edition" will feature native 1080p resolution for full HD gaming; improved and optimized visual textures; and better shadow rendering quality. The new game will be available for the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Wii U. The title will then be optimized for each platform, running on 60 fps for the Sony and Microsoft-run versions, while it will be maximized to 30 fps for the Nintendo console.

While an unexpected announcement, this is not the first remastered edition to come out for the franchise. Just last year, Nordic Games also came out with "Deathinitive Edition" for "Darksiders II." Meanwhile, the new remaster serves as in-between for the expected release of the sequel, "Darksiders III" possibly in December. The new sequel remains unconfirmed, though Nordic Games seems keen on the idea of a trilogy. "Darksiders III" is already being planned out by original franchise publisher THQ before the studio shut down in 2013.

"Darksiders: Warmastered Edition" comes out on Oct. 25 for $19.99 on consoles and a $14.99 price tag for its PC version.
