Date Set for Next World Mission Sunday

The date for the next World Mission Sunday has been announced by World Mission Interpretation and Networks, an office within the Anglican and Global Relations section, as 26th February 2006.

|TOP|Next year’s World Mission Sunday will be held to celebrate the mission and ministry of women in the church under the motto “Anglican/Episcopal Women: Relevant, Radical and Responsive”.

World Mission Sunday, established by mandate of General Convention Resolution 1997 A205, is celebrated every year on the last Sunday after Epiphany to help Episcopalians increase awareness of and participation in global mission.

The theme for World Mission Sunday 2006 was inspired by the work of Episcopal and Anglican women from across the world who gathered at last year’s meeting of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women.

Special materials will be released ahead of the event including a specially designed poster, and downloadable bulletin shell, bulletin insert, a sermon, a homiletical note and other website links.

|AD|A special DVD developed by Women’s Ministries entitled “Shall We Gather” will also be made available in the run-up to the major event.

World Mission Sunday resources are also available on further themes that will arise throughout the day. ‘Companionship in Mission’ is a set of resources to assist Episcopalians to do world mission with others for others.

Other titles include among others, Reconciliation, Hear Their Cry, a resource aimed at highlighting the suffering of Sudanese Christians, and Treasuring Communion which provides an opportunity to prayerfully reflect on the role of money in supporting global mission in an Episcopalian context.

Other major Episcopal/Anglican events planned for 2006 include the Mexico Covenant Committee Meeting from 6th to 9th March 2006, and the Brazil Bilateral Committee Meeting to be held from 9th to 15th October 2006.
