'Dead Rising 4' PS4 release date: Original game coming to PS4 ahead of upcoming sequel

Capcom

While fans wait for "Dead Rising 4" to hit the shelves, some of the hardcore players may want to play the first game in the franchise. It is confirmed that a remastered "Dead Rising" is coming out for the PS4 and other platforms.

In a statement, publisher Capcom said to EuroGamer that the original "Dead Rising" will come out for the PS4. In addition, it seems that other titles in the entire franchise will have their remastered versions as well. Capcom stated, "Capcom will be bringing Dead Rising to Xbox One, PS4 and PC. In addition, Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record will make their way onto Xbox One and PS4."

Capcom also hinted that the release may be earlier than expected, as the publisher adds, "We will have more news to share soon."

This is welcome news to PS4 fans, since the original zombie apocalypse thriller released in 2006 as an Xbox 360 exclusive. Meanwhile, the upcoming "Dead Rising 4," while scheduled to be released for other platforms, is a timed exclusive for the Xbox One. This means that PS4 players will have to wait a full year – toward the end of 2017 – for the upcoming title, and Capcom may have thought of a remastered "Dead Rising" compendium as a consolation in the interim. It is unclear, however, if all of previous "Dead Rising" titles will come out as a bundle, or if the games can be purchased separately.

Meanwhile, Xbox One and PC players (via Windows 10) will get to experience "Dead Rising 4" when it launches on December 6. The new sequel marks the return of main protagonist Frank West battling hordes of tweaked undead. According to an announcement, the upcoming sequel has new in-game features to explore, including "...unmatched level of weapon and character customization, ambitious new features including new zombie classes and EXO Suits."
