'Deadpool 2' release date, spoilers news update: Movie to introduce an unexpected mutant character from the comics

While there are already plenty of promo teasers released for the upcoming Marvel feature film from 20th Century Fox, "Deadpool 2," the details surrounding its main plotline remain scarce. It has been known for a while that the titular hero of the movie, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), will be facing a dangerous enemy in the person of Josh Brolin's Cable, but there is more to known about the story. Moreover, there is mystery surrounding an unknown character introduced in the latest trailer, which could turn out to be an actual mutant from the original comic books.

The mysterious boy shown in the "Deadpool 2" trailers and TV spots is played by the young actor from "Hunt for the Wilder People," Julian Dennison. Some fans may think that the character may not amount to anything significant, as far as the movie's plotline is concerned. However, a more in-depth research will lead to a certain Marvel comic book character named Russel "Rusty" Collins. Dennison's character is simply referred to in the trailer as Russell, and this raises the idea that he is the loosely adapted version of Rusty in the movie, according to Screen Geek.

In the comics, Russell has psychokinetic abilities who was later on adopted by the X-Factor. More years would pass and Russell would end up as one of Magneto's Acolytes. It was shown in the previous "Deadpool 2" teasers that Russell has the same telekinetic power, which is another reason to believe that the comic book background of the character will have something to do with the movie's plot.

Still, it is rumored that "Deadpool 2" will not exactly use Russell's comic book storyline, and instead will have a whole new story of its own. So far, the young boy in the movie is being hunted down by Cable. Based on the current available information, Cable wants to kill Russell as this will be the only way to stop an apocalyptic event that will destroy the future timeline. This does not sound too familiar for the comic book readers, as well as the part that the movie version of Cable is a time-travelling mutant.

The burning questions of the fans will be answered as "Deadpool 2" arrives in theaters worldwide on May 18th.
