'Deadpool 2' release date, plot news: Merc with a Mouth to break the fourth wall to poke fun at superhero sequel fatigue

With the plethora of superhero sequels springing from here and there, Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will start to take notice and will expectedly put his two cents on the matter in "Deadpool 2."

Speaking to Slash Film, producer Simon Kinberg revealed that The Merc with a Mouth will have his say on the truckload of superhero movie follow-ups in one of his breaking-the-fourth-wall moments in "Deadpool 2."

"I think Deadpool 2 will comment on anything that's happening in movies today, especially in superhero movies," Kinberg teased, a gag that mocks the movie itself, which makes it even more fun.

"The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we'll play around with," he went on to say.

By the time "Deadpool 2" comes out, more films from Marvel and DC Comics should have hit the big screen and more will come after Deadpool's second outing.

The big two have prepared a lineup of superhero films up to the year 2020 as they establish live-action cinematic universes of their respective characters.

Indeed, the superhero scene is at its prime and comic book characters have begun invade and dominate the filmmaking industry. Characters and stories from the medium have never been more omnipresent.

Gizmodo says that "Deadpool 2" tackling this trend is a brilliant idea as it is expected that many will identify with Deadpool's feelings towards how the filmmaking industry tirelessly churning out superhero films and comic book adaptations.

In one of the breaking the fourth wall scenes in the first "Deadpool" film, the mercenary commented on the different timelines tackled in "X-Men" films and right off the bat marked the usual format of Hollywood films in its opening credits.

There's a huge expectations for "Deadpool 2" to be a hit, seeing the success of the first film, which it owed to its excellent comedic formula that, based on Kinberg's revelation, will only get crazier.

"Deadpool 2" is slated for release in 2018. Filming is set to begin early next year.
