It's been a while since Ryan Reynolds graced the stage as Deadpool. It was in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to be exact. With rumors going around about the "Deadpool" movie, many are asking if the Canadian comedian will still play the Marvel character.

There hasn't been any official word if the actor will reprise his role as the antihero — in a solo movie at that —  but there's no one better to confirm or deny this issue than creator Rob Liefeld.

At the Comikaze 2014 Expo last weekend, Liefeld addressed the issue of Reynolds playing Deadpool when he was asked during the panel. This is what he had to say:

"Ryan is Deadpool. Look, Ryan Reynolds, he's gone through that same career arc, the guy is ridiculously talented. He has a huge, huge passion for Deadpool. Deadpool's not happening, because he was a giant star, they said, 'Ryan, what do you want to do?' And he said, 'Deadpool.' That's why it happened. They would have no faith otherwise. That movie is because of his passion. He put together the team," reports ComicBook.com.

It may not be an official announcement from FOX yet, but Liefeld's answer is crystal clear. It's all true. In fact, back in 2010 when Paul Wernick and Rheet Reese were working on the "Deadpool" script, Reynolds was talking to them every day about it, reports Cinema Blend. Reynolds was very particular about the direction and story he wants for the character.

Meanwhile, with the lack of news about the movie, not to mention that it wasn't even included in Marvel's Phase 3 movie schedule, fans are thinking that the movie is already cancelled. Liefeld dismissed this confusion and explained that "Deadpool" isn't under Marvel Studios but under Fox.

On Liefeld's Twitter account, he made a suggestion as to how the "Deadpool" movie confusion can be fixed.

He posted: "Hopefully FOX stages their own film slate announcement for their Marvel brands. Fantastic Four could use the bump."

So there it is — Reynolds is still playing the character and the "Deadpool" film is still good to go. As for any movie details, that's something fans have to wait for.
