The highly-mysterious game developed by the infamous Hideo Kojima — "Death Stranding" — has been the center of a lot of rumors recently, especially since its developer did a great job of keeping the game under the radar. Not much is know about the title's plot and features. However, now it seems that a release date has been revealed by Kojima himself, and it will be before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

According to IGN, Kojima answered this frequently-asked question at the recently concluded Tokyo Game Show 2016 event during an on-stage Q&A session. He said that the game will be out before the next Olympics will take place, and to give more hints to fans, he even mentioned that the game will be released in the year before the movie "Akira" is set.

As fans can remember, the animated movie is set in the year 2019, meaning "Death Stranding" will most likely be released sometime in 2018.

Meanwhile, VG 24/7 revealed that the upcoming game will feature a female main character and that the role is still being cast. Regardless, Kojima repeated that the game's multiplayer mode will have a unique take, even going so far as to say that it will be a different kind of online gaming experience in a way never seen before.

This is quite perplexing, but in any case, it has also been confirmed that the game is using a reliable third-party engine for building the game instead of constructing one for their own purposes.

Right now, the only confirmed talent who is involved with the game is Norman Reedus. Reedus plays Daryl Dixon in the highly-acclaimed American horror drama show "The Walking Dead." Kojima shared that the game will show an entirely different side of Reedus, something fans never expected from him before.

"Death Stranding" is expected to be released in 2018 by Kojima Productions.
