On Tuesday, Oct. 18, fans got to see Demi Lovato in a documentary titled "Demi Lovato: Simply Complicated," released on YouTube. The true-to-life clip showed viewers the darker times of the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer.

The 78-minute documentary takes a closer look at the 25-year-old singer's life. Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the video had Lovato opening up about controversial issues that had been hounding her. It also showed how she slowly found her way back.

One of the things that she addressed was the drug addiction issue that, according to her, started when she was still a Disney Channel star. Lovato revealed that she loved the experience, and her initial use left her out of control. The "Stone Cold" singer also cited her father's drug addiction and alcoholism, saying, "Guess I always searched for what he found in drugs and alcohol because it fulfilled him and he chose that over a family."

"Closer" singer Nick Jonas, who is known for being good friends with Lovato, also spoke on how the Jonas Brothers wanted to return the Lovato to the old person they knew. "It was actually the Jonas Brothers waving the flag, and saw Demi veering in a different direction," John Taylor, Lovato's handler, said. Nick also revealed that he acted as a "bridge" in the trying times of his brother, Joe, and Lovato's relationship. Though Nick and the "Heart Attack" singer had been through a lot, their relationship still remained platonic.

Lovato's personal development coach, Mike Bayer, also disclosed that the singer's management team threatened to drop her unless she changed, and that became the darkest moment of the singer's life. He explained that Lovato's fear was to be left by people close to her heart.

The documentary also shed light on the punching incident that happened while Lovato was on a tour for "Camp Rock 2." Apparently, back up dancer Alex "Shorty" Welch called the singer out when he saw Lovato abusing Adderall, to which the latter answered with a punch.
