HTC Bolt release date, specs news: New HTC handset on limited release; not available in Canada

While HTC has already launched its newest iteration, the HTC Bolt, the new handset is still on limited release.

According to Mobile Syrup, an HTC representative has confirmed that the HTC Bolt is an exclusive release. "The HTC Bolt is a Sprint exclusive device," stated the unnamed company representative. "And will only be available in U.S. and won't be available in Canada," the source added.

However, although the HTC Bolt is exclusive to Sprint, the device may soon have a global launch, possibly under a different name. Previously, noted tipster and perennial leaker Evan Blass has already mentioned that the HTC Bolt will be marketed outside of the US. Now, another leaker has collaborated the rumor, as LlabTooFer also stated that the HTC Bolt will be launched as a global release under the HTC 10 evo moniker.

The HTC 10 evo brand for its global release is an appropriate name. Most observers agree that the new HTC Bolt is a step-down version of the current-gen HTC flagship. Design-wise, the newly-released HTC Bolt may even be mistaken as the HTC 10 at first glance. However, there are subtle differences. While the HTC Bolt also has the same all-metal construction, it is now IP57 certified, which means that it has dust- and water-resistance features. In addition, HTC has also ditched the 3.5-mm standard audio jack for the Bolt, opting instead for audio output through the USB Type-C port. The HTC Bolt is also slightly larger than the HTC 10, featuring a 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD display.

Under the hood, the step-down specs of the HTC Bolt includes a Snapdragon 810 chipset, paired with 3 GB of RAM — a previous-gen setup compared to the SD 820 and 4-GB RAM pair on the HTC 10. Having a previous-gen chipset is interesting for some, since the SD 810 has been known for its heating issues. Other specs for the HTC Bolt include Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box, a 16-MP main camera and 8-MP selfie shooter, and 3,200-mAh battery.
