Publisher Activision has already confirmed a sequel to its space-age shooter "Destiny." Since "Destiny 2" is expected to be released next year, speculations suggest that the new game will optimize its potential for the PS4 Neo as well as the Xbox Project Scorpio.

Publisher Activision and developer Bungie already revealed that they have planned for "Destiny 2" to appear this year. However, setbacks forced the studios to delay the sequel for a 2017 release. This may work in their favor, however, since there will be new consoles coming out. This means that "Destiny 2" will be optimized for the PS4 Neo as well as Microsoft's Project Scorpio for the Xbox One. In addition, heavy improvements for next-gen gaming for "Destiny 2" are already the target of Bungie. In previous blog posts, the developer promised players that "... there are hundreds of passionate people at Bungie working to turn the plan for Destiny's future into the adventures, dangerous enemies, and glittering treasures that await us."

Meanwhile, observers are saying that one improvement that Bungie will definitely include in "Destiny 2" is to make the storyline more engaging than ever since this will be a basis for future expansion content. This is already happening with the next major DLC release, "Rise of Iron."

Speaking with Venture Beat, game director Scott Taylor teased that upcoming updates, as well as the sequel, will continue to flesh out NPCs as central to the game. Taylor made Xur and the Cryptarch as examples.

The game director said, "When I look at the universe of Destiny, I see a lot of opportunity to tell stories about these characters that — you look at the Cryptarch and Xur, we don't know much about them, but they're cool characters. I'm curious about them."

"Destiny 2" has yet to have a specific release date next year. The next major update for Year 2 of "Destiny," however, is scheduled for release on Sept. 20.
