Developer Bungie may have just hinted at a sequel happening for "Destiny," but the recent financial earnings report from publisher Activision finally confirmed the detail – "Destiny 2" is slated to appear next year.

Since it is already confirmed, hardcore fans are already revisiting previous speculations about the follow-up to the hugely popular first-person shooter, including rumors of "Destiny 2" being dubbed "Shattered Suns."

According to Tech Insider, speculations about the sequel to "Destiny" began cropping up as early as October last year. The industry follower mentioned that a separate post from an unnamed source, which was announced last year prior to updates in "Destiny Year Two," had its contents scrutinized, and the details included in the supposed "leak," including the then-unreleased "The Taken King" DLC, turned out to be true.

The rest of the alleged leak surmised that that next "completely new game" for Bungie's top-tier game will be called "Destiny 2: The Shattered Suns." In a new Reddit thread outlining the supposed leak (the original post was deleted), it is also mentioned that the new game, while maintaining the same characters as the previous one, will center on Osiris and his journey. In addition, the post stated that "Destiny 2: The Shattered Suns" is originally scheduled for a September 2016 release, but Bungie planned to delay it until 2017.

This part of the supposed leak turned out to be true, as the recent confirmation from Bungie stated that indeed, the full sequel for "Destiny" will launch next year, and a big update will roll out in September instead.

Meanwhile, although details are sketchy for the "big September update," Tech Times predicted that since it is considered a major one, Bungie may be releasing a new DLC as a follow-up to "The Taken King." This will be the fourth DLC installment for the original "Destiny," before the sequel game launches next year.
