'Destiny 2: Trials of the Nine' news: Players losing interest, game hits all-time-low player count
First-person shooter (FPS) game "Destiny 2" was one of the most anticipated games before its release just a few months ago. With the success of the first "Destiny" game, it should have at least followed through with the second game. However, recent data seems to report that the title's player base is on the decline.
To give specifics, the Trials of the Nine on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) version only had 46,165 players, Xbox One with 24,161 players, and PC with 7,488 players, as reported by Comicbook. Many seem to speculate that the reason for this constant decline in players is the bugs and issues the game continues to have. Although developer Bungie has tried its best to provide regular updates and be transparent with every change, gamers continue to lose interest.
Drawing statistics on player base of the game according to its multiplayer feature may not provide accurate data, but one can argue that the Trials of the Nine is one of the most exciting post-game contents, and most likely the one with the most following. If the stats for the mode is not doing well, it is quite safe to assume that the player count, in general, is going down as well.
Of course, there may be other factors that come into play. One probable major reason is the rise of other more popular FPS games, and the current trend in which more and more people are becoming fans of the battle royale genre. Proof of this is the fact that "PlayerUnknown's Battleground" or "PUBG" is steadily getting higher and higher player numbers as reported by media outlets.
Given "Destiny 2's" numbers, the future of the game does not look quite good. The situation seems worse considering that it has only been five months since its release. The first "Destiny" game already had twice as many players even years after its release, as opposed to the small player base "Destiny 2" has right now.
Bungie seems to be doing what it can to keep the game's players and gain the interest of others. New events and updates will surely be rolled out with a roadmap likely to be revealed soon.
