The highly anticipated sequel to Bungie's best-selling video game "Destiny" is right around the corner, based on the details revealed during the latest earnings call of Activision.

During the company's earning call, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg opened up about the details of "Destiny 2."

According to Hirshberg, the "Destiny 2" project is right on track and will attract old and new players when the game comes out in 2017. "That sequel is designed to both excite our highly engaged current players but also to broaden the appeal even further, bringing in new fans and bringing back lapsed fans," the Activision CEO stated as revealed by Daily Star.

However, Hirshberg opted not to discuss the contents of "Destiny 2." He also chose not to talk about the game's official release date during the company's earnings call. Instead, the Activision CEO talked about how the game's DLC will improve the quality of the game. "Going forward, along with our partners at Bungie, we've put together what we believe is a very smart approach that will allow us to deliver that steady stream of great content to keep our players engaged and keep the universe alive and growing in the wake of that sequel," he said.

Bungie also corrected the recent rumors about "Destiny 2," which came out after a rumored leak surfaced online.

Rumors claim that the events in "Destiny 2" will happen at the moon of Planet Mars. It will also reportedly have a very different storyline compared to the original game, which means that the upcoming release will look more like a prequel than a sequel. Other rumors also claimed that the Cabal will play a very significant role in the upcoming game.

However, a report from iTechPost quoted the Twitter post from Bungie's lead UI designer David Candland which claimed that all of the rumors are fake. This means that all the fan-made theories about "Destiny 2" should not be taken as fact.
