'Destiny: The Taken King' news: New multiplayer modes

Two additional multiplayer modes will soon be added to "Destiny."

The two additions to the game's Crucible mode will be coming along with the upcoming "The Taken King" expansion for the game.

"Destiny" design lead Lars Bakken laid out the details of the two new modes in an interview with Game Informer.

The first of the two new Crucible modes is known as the Rift.

Rift will be similar to the Capture the Flag mode that is present in many multiplayer modes of first-person shooters, but "Destiny" is adding a little twist to what players have come to know.

Just like before, players will still be bunched up into teams. Each team will be made up of six players and their first goal is to secure an object. For Rift, this object will be known as the Spark. Once players have the Spark, their goal becomes to place in their opponents' goal, just like with Capture the Flag; but the difference now is that players will only be able to hang on to the object for a limited amount of time, according to Polygon. If a player hangs on to the Spark after 75 seconds, they will be killed by it, adding a new wrinkle that could change up strategies for both teams.

The second addition is known as Mayhem. Mayhem is basically "Destiny" on steroids. All the ammo, grenades, melee attacks, and supers of the participating players will be recharging rapidly, allowing them to use them again almost immediately. Mayhem is being billed as a Crucible mode that is designed to allow players to just simply have fun and let off some stress, although it may not be a permanent addition as feedback from fans will determine its ultimate fate, according to Gamespot.

"The Taken King" expansion for "Destiny" will be released on Sept. 15.
