Reports say "Detective Pikachu" has found its female lead in "Big Little Lies" star Kathryn Newton.

The live-action Pikachu adaptation has had a pretty busy month, snagging two protagonists in a span of two weeks.

According to Variety, Reese Witherspoon's daughter in the critically acclaimed mini-series "Big Little Lies" is the latest addition to the growing cast of "Detective Pikachu." This means that 20-year-old Newton will star alongside "The Get Down" actor Justice Smith, who was announced earlier this month.

No further details about their characters have been revealed yet, but that does not stop Pokemon fans from making their own assumptions.

The "Detective Pikachu" movie is an adaptation of the 2016 Japanese video game, where a boy named Tim Goodman befriends Pikachu and together they go on an adventure of solving a series of mysterious cases. Their first ever case is that of an Aipom that has been causing trouble around the city, stealing jewelry, particularly from one girl.

The people at Screenrant believe that Smith will play the role of Goodman, while Newton will star as the girl with missing jewelry. Although the girl's role would probably be made bigger and more interlaced with the entire plot.

As for Detective Pikachu himself, Legendary Entertainment has yet to reveal their choice. In October, it was rumored that the production company is looking at a number of huge action stars to voice the iconic detective. According to "That Hashtag Show," the top choices were Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson ("Fast & Furious" franchise), Hugh Jackman ("X-Men" series), Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool"), and Mark Wahlberg ("Transformers" franchise).

Their iconic manly voices were reportedly supposed to add color and humor to the film.

"Detective Pikachu" will be directed by Rob Letterman, with a script from Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. It is slated to start filming in London in January 2018.
