Pokemon has become one of the most iconic games for the past few decades with Pikachu being its main mascot. Joining numerous games, several movies, and television series, a new live-action movie, "Detective Pikachu," will be added to the list and will soon be in the works. Now, Universal has announced the release date for the film.

According to the announcement, the movie will be out nearly two years from now on May 10, 2019. The actors and actresses featured in the movie are veterans as many people already know them from other movies.

Joining the cast as the titular character is Ryan Reynolds, who has found worldwide fame for his "Deadpool" movie. No details have been revealed about how Reynolds will be portraying the famous Pokemon, but he will no doubt bring a refreshing twist to the franchise.

Also starring in the live-action movie are Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton from "The Get Down" and "Big Little Lies," respectively. Although nobody knows at this point who they would be in the movie, rumors about the plot suggest that Smith will be playing a teenage boy whose father gets kidnapped. Newton, on the other hand, will be a journalist who helps Smith look for his missing dad.

"Detective Pikachu" is not an entirely new story as it is reportedly inspired by the video game "Great Detective Pikachu," which was already released last 2016. The upcoming movie also marks the second time Pikachu will be talking in a film. The first time he did this was in one of the last scenes in the latest Pokemon movie, "Pokemon the Movie: I Choose You!," which took everyone by surprise.

"Detective Pikachu" will be helmed by Rob Letterman, and it will begin production in London this coming January.
