Sony has yet again surprised players all over the world with an unexpected announcement, which details the confirmed release date for Quantic Dream's upcoming sci-fi game -- "Detroit: Become Human."

The new title set to drop as a PlayStation 4 exclusive will make its worldwide debut in stores on May 25th.

Since its initial announcement in 2015, this is the first time Sony has revealed any details about the game's window launch date. In earlier statements made by Quantic Dream's founder David Cage, he only mentioned a 2018 release but, other than that, details have been kept under wraps.

"Detroit: Become Human" has been shrouded in controversy since its development. Earlier this year, Quantic Dream's co-founder Guillaume de Fondaumiere was accused of harassment, which he refuted. The title also seems to mirror the current world involving themes such as terrorism, domestic abuse, and other real-world issues.

But regardless of the various controversies revolving the title, Cage described the game as the studio's "most ambitious title" yet.

"This game may be seen as controversial as it explores a number of sensitive topics that some people may consider inappropriate or taboo for video games, but maybe this is the most fascinating aspect of Detroit. We hope that it sparks some meaningful conversations and we're looking forward to hearing what you think about it," Cage said.

It will follow three androids who were initially created as tools to exact commands; however, they slowly develop their own emotions and become sentients -- or something similar to humans.

Players will be able to take hold of these three androids' fate and destiny, a similar gameplay seen in Quantic Dream's previous line of work, which includes "Heavy Rain" and "Beyond: Two Souls."

The highly anticipated and controversial game "Detroit: Become Human" will drop in stores starting May 25.
