'Diablo 3' update: Patch 2.3.0 now live; offers one game-changing item

Diablo 3 patch 2.3.0 Blizzard Entertainment

Game company Blizzard continues to update and re-balance their highly acclaimed title "Diablo 3." Patch 2.3.0, the game's newest patch which was reviewed in June, is now available online and along with the usual bug fixes and class rebalancing, it also introduces the Kanai's Cube item.

"Diablo 2" had the infamous Horadric Cube, and while that item is not going to make its way to the third title, the new Kanai's Cube arguably shares many similarities. This item can draw out Legendary powers from items while destroying the item in the process;. It can also re-forge Legendary items. The item's stats will be re-rolled as if it was dropped for the very first time. Kanai's Cube can also upgrade a Rare item to Legendary and is also capable of converting a Set item into a different but random piece of the same set.

Perhaps the more game-changing capability of the Kanai's Cube is that it can remove the level requirement for an item, allowing an avatar of any level to use a highly powered item. It is also capable of converting gems and crafting materials.

The cube can only be obtained in The Ruins of Sescheron, the new dungeon that comes with the 2.3.0 patch. The ruins will showcase the events that took down the barbarians of Mount Arreat.

Along with new dungeons, monsters, traps, and items such as the Kanai's Cube, the game will also feature Seasons. According to the official patch notes, each player's Seasons Journey will be divided into smaller chapters that have their own individual goals and achievements.

"Seasons aren't really about the leaderboard, but having a fresh start, experiencing the game again and feeling like you're part of a larger community than yourself where the excitement around Diablo is there," Blizzard senior producer Rob Foote told IGN

Blizzard has also released a promotional trailer that details the additions brought by patch 2.3.0.
