Diamond Jubilee celebrations conclude with thanksgiving service

A weekend of spectacular celebrations to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee will end today with a procession and thanksgiving service.

The service will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, preaching the sermon.

Some people camped outside the cathedral through the night to catch a glimpse of the Queen.

Prime Minister David Cameron and other dignitaries will attend the service, which will be followed by a carriage procession and an RAF flypast.

Prince Philip will not be in attendance at today's events as he remains in hospital with a bladder infection.

Following the service, the Queen will join a reception at the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London, Mansion House.

A message of thanks to the nation recorded by the Queen last night will be broadcast on TV and radio across the UK and the Commonwealth at 1800 BST.

Last night, beacons were lit across the UK, including at more than 600 churches in honour of the Queen. Beacons were also lit around the Commonwealth.

Stars including Sir Elton John, Kylie Minogue and Sir Paul McCartney performed before the Royal Family and a crowd of 12,000 people in a dazzling concert outside Buckingham Palace last night.
