Eversince the deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios became public, people have speculated who would be cast as Spider-Man and which character would don the mask. Sites like IGN and MTV speculated that the studios may try Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker. 

However, Joe Quesada, Marvel chief creative officer, may have accidentally answered the issue. While answering fan questions via Tumblr, Quesada hinted that the whole franchise would depend on the character of Peter Parker. 

"What's one of the main things you feel is most important to making this Spider-Man film the best that it can be?" the fan posted. 

Quesada answered, "The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker. Get Peter's character right and the rest falls into place." 

This statement might kill the rumor that Marvel and Sony would be using Miles Morales, the African-American-Hispanic teenager that took over as Spider-Man when Peter Parker died in the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic book series. 

Another report, this time from Badass Digest, states that Marvel is now looking for a 16- or 17-year old actor to play Peter Parker. The site also states that "Hostages" actor Mateus Ward, 16, already auditioned for the role. 

These casting rumors have not been confirmed, but if true, then fans would see Peter Parker, not Miles Morales, as the web-slinging superhero.  

Peter Parker was previously portrayed by Tobey Maguire from 2002 to 2007, and later by Andrew Garfield from 2012 to 2014. Garfield was planned to return for a third film in the "Amazing Spider-Man" franchise as well as in several spin-off films until the Marvel/Sony deal canned these projects by opting for a reboot. 

Whoever is cast will be out in the open once "Captain America: Civil War" comes out on May 6, 2016 since the web-slinger will reportedly make an appearance in the film before his solo flick in 2017.
