'Dissidia Final Fantasy NT' news: Open beta for upcoming title now live ahead its release on Jan. 30

The open beta for Square Enix's upcoming fighting video game "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" is now live, and PlayStation Plus is not a requirement to engage in the online multiplayer game.

The description for the open beta test reads, "Take control of heroes and villains from across the Final Fantasy pantheon and battle it out for glory and victory."

The open beta is divided into three different sessions, bringing in different selections of characters. The first session is already under way until Jan. 15 at 9 p.m. ET. The next one will commence on Jan. 15 at 10 p.m. ET until Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. ET. The last one will start on Jan. 18 at 9 p.m. ET and will end on Jan. 21 at exactly 9 p.m. ET.

There will be 15 available characters per session to choose from. Gamers will be also be able to observe the four types of fighters in the video game -- Vanguards, Specialists, Assassins, and Marksmen. Character customization is also added in the open beta. There will be no story campaigns, however. There are 12 stages available to serve as battlefields for matches. Gamers will also witness powerful summons in the open beta.

Gamers can battle it out on the 3-versus-3 online Ranked Matches. Players will also be aided by 2 AI allies on the offline Gauntlet mode.

Eight days after the open beta ends, the "Dissidia Final Fantasy NT" will be launched. The latest installment to the "Final Fantasy" video game franchise is one of the most-awaited video game releases of 2018. The video game introduces the new 3-versus-3 combat mode as well as new characters from both old and new "Final Fantasy" titles. Noctis Lucis Caelum from "Final Fantasy XV," Y'shtola Rhul from "Final Fantasy XIV," and Ramza Beoulve from "Final Fantasy Tactics" all joined the roster of heroes.
