'Divinity: Original Sin 2' news update: Indie game sequel sells one million copies
"Divinity: Original Sin 2" has now reached divine proportions, as the sales of the indie game have clocked in at one million copies worldwide.
Two months after the roleplaying game (RPG) has been released, Larian Studios, the developers of the "Divinity: Original Sin 2" are proud to announce a sales milestone of one million copies, both digital and physical. A vast majority of these sales are actually from Steam, with as much as 921,000 reported owners on the said platform. Other platforms include Polish game distribution platform GOG.com.
Apart from these, the concurrent player count of "Divinity: Original Sin 2" still peaks at about 14,000. While not as high when it was first released, this was still pretty impressive for a single-player-focused game. This was also enough to keep it on Steam's Top 100 games, along with the likes of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" and "Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) 2."
Larian Studios has since taken to Twitter to thank fans and their player base for making the achievement possible in just the span of two months. It can be recalled that Larian Studios, an indie developer team, also pioneered one of the most successful crowdfunded games like the first "Divinity: Original Sin."

Right now, "Divinity: Original Sin 2" is set to be a contender for a "Game of the Year Award" from various gaming websites and magazines, not only for its popularity but also for being one of the best RPGs of the decade. This is also considered impressive by some as "Divinity: Original Sin 2" and its predecessor are both aimed at a specific RPG niche, meaning it was initially intended for a relatively small audience.
The number of sales and the popularity of the game might even increase further, as rumors are circulating that Larian might be planning a PlayStation 4 (PS4) release for the game. At the moment, there are no official announcements yet. However, fans assume this to be the case since the first game was released for the PS4, and they expect the sequel to follow suit.
"Divinity: Original Sin 2" is currently only available for the PC.
