Divorcee fed up with questions about his relationship status launches fake boyfriend, fake girlfriend service
There are a lot of things people can fake nowadays - a tan, hair colour, or even an identity. But thanks to divorcee Matt Homann, people can now fake having boyfriends and girlfriends too!
When he got divorced, Homann got so fed up with people asking him if he had met anyone new, he decided to do something about it.
"Around Thanksgiving, my mum called me and asked if she should set an extra place for someone I'm bringing," he revealed in the Invisible Girlfriend blog. "In that moment I realised how great it would be to have an answer for her that didn't require me to actually be dating someone."
His pitched this idea during St. Louis Startup Weekend in 2013, and people thought it was so brilliant that it won, and within a matter of time the Invisible Girlfriend and Invisible Boyfriend services were officially in business.
According to the site, Invisible Girlfriend or Boyfriend "gives you real-world and social proof that you're in a relationship - even if you're not - so you can get back to living life on your own terms."
By paying only $25, you get proof that you are in a relationship, including photos and 100 text messages, 10 voicemails, and one handwritten note.
People can select a photo of their significant other from the Invisible Girlfriend and Boyfriend library, and they have the option of determining the name and age of their significant other, as well as customise his or her personality. For those having trouble imagining their make-believe beau, Invisible Girlfriend and Boyfriend can also help in creating the story where they first met and even add an interesting backstory.
The "relationship" will be so realistic that there will be interactions in social media accounts and an exchange of text messages anytime the customer prefers.
Homann told Valley Wag that most of their customers are either gay people trying to keep their gender a secret from conservative family members, or soldiers working overseas who like to pretend they have a girlfriend back home. Some are guys who never had a girlfriend but want to practise on someone make-believe.
